JOUR-PAC is proud to endorse Van Taylor for Texas' 3rd Congressional District. This district is currently represented by JOUR-PAC Reformer Rep. Sam Johnson, who is vacating the seat to retire after an honorable career in the House of Representatives.
Van Taylor is a former combat veteran of the Iraq War and a current Texas state senator with a proven record as a conservative reformer: "As a Marine Officer and paratrooper, Captain Taylor volunteered for duty as a platoon commander with the Marine Corps’ C Company, 4th Reconnaissance Battalion. He deployed to Iraq where he fought with the 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company. Taylor led the first platoon into Iraq for his brigade and led a mission that rescued 31 wounded Marines during the pitched Battle of An Nasiriyah. For his service in Iraq, the Marine Corps awarded Captain Taylor the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, and the Navy Commendation Medal with “V” for valor. In addition to fighting for conservative solutions, Taylor has also made his mark spearheading legislation to protect victims of domestic violence and to safeguard our children from online sexual predators. He has worked to make it easier for our military to vote while serving overseas, verify the citizenship of every voter in the state, close a loophole preventing healthcare fraud and abuse saving local taxpayers millions, curb the prescription opioid epidemic, stop the proliferation of toll roads, and author sweeping ethics reform including revoking benefits from corrupt politicians. Additionally, Taylor’s Truth in Taxation rule, which forces politicians to state clearly in the first line of any bill if there is an attempt to raise taxes or fees, has been cited by Americans for Tax Reform as a successful blueprint for other states to implement." State Senator Taylor stated the following about what has inspired him to run: "My inspirations for seeking public office are my three girls: Laura, Helen, and Susie. Every generation has the responsibility to pass on a nation better than they received it. But today the cloud of big government threatens this legacy. I believe America’s success story has volumes yet to be written and it is our duty to ensure the next generation inherits a nation just as strong, secure, and prosperous as previous generations have passed down throughout our history. America is at a tipping point. We must protect our liberty, restore the core mission of government, and renew the promise of the American Dream. " The following are some of his views on some important issues: "Mission Statement: I take my mission statement directly from the Declaration of Independence: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. — That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” Simply, government was created to secure our rights and elected representatives work for the people. Sadly, we are on track to leave our children a nation buried beneath a mountain of debt with politicians and bureaucrats in Washington controlling even the most routine aspects of our lives. We are losing our freedom not to a tyrant – but from government itself. I refuse to accept this future for our children. Jobs and the Economy: As a local businessman, I know firsthand that jobs come from small business – not big government. Texas leads in the nation in jobs and opportunity and Collin County is certainly at the heart of that growth. I am constantly inspired by the passion and dedication of our job creators to tackle the risks of starting their own businesses. Texas leads the nation in jobs and economic opportunity not by accident but because of conservative leadership that removes government barriers in order to incentivize private innovation and unleash American’s entrepreneurial spirit. Texas has established a blueprint for success and Washington can learn a lot from how we do things in Texas. Reining in the National Debt: When my oldest daughter was born twelve years ago the national debt was just over $7 trillion dollars. Today the national debt is about $20 trillion. That means in Laura’s twelve years politicians in Washington have racked up nearly double the debt than the combined total from the previous 228 years of our nation. It is unacceptable to push this burden to our children and force them to climb out from beneath a seemingly insurmountable mountain debt. Texas families and small businesses live within their means – government must do the same." Van Taylor has the experience as a combat veteran, a business owner, and a Texas state senator with a proven record and the character and integrity to be an excellent representative for the people of Texas' 3rd Congressional District.
